Johnathan Adler works with individuals and families to help them make better financial decisions around protection, retirement, income, and long-term financial planning.
Over the past 15 years, he has worked with numerous TSP account owners and has developed a particular interest in helping federal employees think beyond their TSP balance and toward the larger retirement-income picture.
His approach begins with understanding what someone is trying to accomplish, identifying the decisions that matter most, and determining how different financial resources can work together.
Federal employees face a distinct set of retirement decisions — decisions that involve the TSP, FERS pension, Social Security, survivor benefits, and the transition from a predictable paycheck to a coordinated income plan. These decisions are interconnected, and they deserve careful, coordinated thinking.

Good financial planning does not begin with products or strategies. It begins with understanding what someone is trying to accomplish and what decisions actually matter. Complexity is sometimes necessary — but it should never be the starting point.
Decisions should be coordinated, not made in isolation.
Permanent financial decisions — when to claim Social Security, whether to roll over a TSP, how to structure retirement income — interact with each other in ways that are not always obvious. Making one decision without considering the others can create problems that are difficult to undo.
Good planning is not about predicting the future.
It is about making decisions designed to endure it. A retirement income plan should be built to hold up across a range of scenarios — not optimized for a single outcome that may or may not materialize.
